what your school librarian assocation will be focusing upon in the foreseeable
future and how you can get involved! Immediate Past-president, Dawn Vaughn,

as how this plan will affect you.
1:00 pm Keynote Speaker:
Marketing Information Literacy Across the Library Continuum. Jackie
Siminitus, MLS, SBC Library Advocate
School librarians and higher education librarians are both tackling
info literacy, but not together. Whether it’s called information
literacy, information competency, ICT, or library research skills,
all library types are well-positioned to market this as one of their
strengths or "core competencies." Jackie will give her perspective
of how information literacy has evolved, why a large communications
firm like SBC Communications has invested in literacy and information
literacy initiatives, and ideas on how librarians and other collaborators
could market “information literacy.”
Jackie Siminitus is California's SBC Library Advocate for SBC Communications.
She is a former academic and corporate librarian. She follows library
issues, technology trends, and network applications. She has published
research reports on information literacy, equitable access to school
library resources, library grants & networking e-newsletter. She
is on CLA Assembly and is past-president of CLA's Information Technology
Section. Jackie has also taught a course on "Marketing Libraries
in a Networked World" for four summers at San Jose State University,
