Enoch-Pratt’s Carla Hayden to Open Nevada Library Conference


Henderson, NV—American Library Association (ALA) President Carla Hayden will give the opening address during the 2004 Nevada Library Association (NLA) Conference on Thursday, August 12, 2004, at the Hyatt Lake Las Vegas/
.
NLA President Felton Thomas, administrator of the West Las Vegas Library, is excited about Hayden’s visit: “We’re very honored to have Carla Hayden come to Nevada to speak on equity and access on behalf of all libraries and library customers throughout the state.”

Hayden, executive director of the Enoch-Pratt Free Library in Baltimore, was honored as one of Ms. Magazine’s Women of the Year in 2003. Other accolades include Librarian of the Year from Library Journal (1995), one of Maryland's Top 100 Women from Warfield's Business Record (1996) and The Daily Record (2003). She is also a recipient of the Carver-Washington Award from the Baltimore Tuskegee Alumni Association (1995), the Andrew White Medal from Loyola College (1997), and the President's Medal from the Johns Hopkins University (1998).

Hayden’s Board memberships include the Maryland African American Museum Corporation, Goucher College, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute and Library, the Maryland Public Broadcasting Commission, the University of Pittsburgh School of Information Sciences, and Washington College.
