Dr. Michael Green to Keynote Nevada Library Conference

Henderson, NV—Dr. Michael Green, historian, author, editor, and columnist, will give the keynote address during the 2004 Nevada Library Association (NLA) Conference on Friday, August 13, 2004, at the Hyatt Lake Las Vegas.
The address, “What Makes Nevada Different – Or is it Different?” will look at the history of Nevada and its largest city, Las Vegas. Politics, the economy, and Nevada’s image will be covered.

According to Kristy Price, Community Relations Administrator of the Henderson District Public Library, “Michael Green is an incredible spokesman-educator. He truly makes history come alive through his stories and tales.”

Green earned his Ph. D. from Columbia University and works as a professor of history for the Community College of Southern Nevada. A prolific writer, Green is author of Freedom, Union, and Power: Lincoln and His Party in the Civil War (Fordham University Press), and The Nevada Journey. He also co-authored A Centennial History of Las Vegas and the History of Lionel Sawyer & Collins. Green is incoming editor for the Nevada Historical Society Quarterly, and writes columns for the Las Vegas Mercury, Las Vegas Senior Life, and Nevada’s Washington Watch.

In his free time, Green chairs the UNLV College of Liberal Arts’ Alumni Board, and enjoys relaxing with wife Deborah Young, Development Director for UNLV’s William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration.
