NEVADA LIBRARY CONFERENCE TO OFFER LIBRARY DIVERSITY PROGRAM

Henderson, NV—The Nevada Library Association’s (NLA’s) 58th Annual Conference, being held August 11 – 14, 2004, at the Hyatt Regency Lake Las Vegas Resort, is hosting a library diversity panel as part of its president’s program.

The program, "White Privilege in Library Land" will offer a panel of diverse leaders in the field including Dr. Carla Hayden, Director of the Enoch-Pratt Library in Baltimore and Immediate Past President for the American Library Association; Daniel Walters, Director of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and President-Elect of the Public Library Association; and John D. Berry, Native American Studies Librarian, University of California, Berkeley.

According to Felton Thomas, administrator for the West Las Vegas Library and 2004 NLA president, “This program will challenge its audience to look at the benefits of being white in the library profession.”

The president’s program will be held Thursday, August 12, at 1:30 p.m., and is open to all conference attendees.
