Scholarship Recipients
Thomas Fay,
Henderson District Public Libraries, $5000.00
Tom
Fay has been an NLA member since 1989.
He has been involved in NNAG since its inception as a focus group in
1993. For the past year he has been
involved in the Southern District and is currently developing the new NLA
website. He is the candidate for NLA
President-elect.
Tom
began his library career in 1983 as a page for Overton Library, now a part of
LV-CCLD; was a computer technician, network specialist and then network manager
for LV-CCLD; Computer Network Specialist for CLAN; and currently is IT Manager
for the Henderson District. He has a BA
in Fine Arts from UNLV and will pursue his MLIS through the University of
Wisconsin, Milwaukee Distance Education Program.
Leah Ciminelli, Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, $3000.00
Leah
Ciminelli has been an NLA member since March 2000. She has been the Young People’s Librarian Assistant at the Green
Valley Library since August. She has a
BS in Elementary Education from UNLV and will pursue her MLIS through the
University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Distance Education Program.
David Monroe,
Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, $3000.00
David
Monroe has been an NLA member since April 2000. He has been a Reference Assistant at the Clark County Library
since August. David has a BA from the
University of Hawaii and intends to pursue an MLIS at the University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Tysha King,
Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, $3000.00
Tysha King joined NLA
this year. She started library work as
a page in the Clark County Library and is now Assistant Circulation Department
Head. She has a BS in Business Administration
from Thomas Edison State College and intends to pursue his MLIS from the
University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Distance Education Program.
Jeanette M. Moore,
Elko County Library, $1000.00
Jeanette
Moore has been a member of NLA since 1998.
She coordinated the author/children/
parents
portion of the 1999 NYRA meeting; assisted in coordinating the 1999 NLA
Conference in Elko, and is currently the NLA Awards Chair. She has assisted with the NSCLS-sponsored
Summer Reading Program.
Jeanette
has a BA in Elementary Education from Villa Marie College, a Master Teacher
Certification in Religious Education from Gannon University, and a MEd in
Literacy from Lesley College. She needs
only three classes to complete her Nevada Public Librarian Certification.
Kristine McDonald,
Esmeralda County Libraries, $1000.00
Kristine
McDonald has been an NLA member since September. She has been the Branch Manager of the Silver Peak Library since
May 2000. Kristine needs two courses to
complete her BS from Clayton College and will attend UNLV and distance
education programs for her Nevada Public Library Certification.
Kathryn Tolleson,
Beatty Library District, $1000.00
Kathryn
Tolleson has been an NLA member since April 2000. She began her library work as a Library Aide for the Beatty
Library in 1997 and was appointed Acting Director in September 1999. Kathryn intends to obtain her Nevada Public
Librarian Certification from UNLV.
Scholarship
applications for the 2001 NLA awards are
due March 15, 2001. The
application forms will be available on the Nevada Library Association website,
http://www.nevadalibraries.org
after the first
of the year.
The ALA ASCLA
Division Century Scholarship Application for 2001 is available on the ALA
website at http://www.ala.org/work/awards/scholars.html. The application deadline is Thursday,
MARCH 1, 2001.
